The wedding uniting Diana and Charles was declared as a national holiday because of how extravagant the event was. The wedding took place on July 29th, 1981. The reason for this wedding being a public holiday was because the British public wanted to be part of the experience.

The wedding of Diana and Charles was known as an over-the-top extravaganza. The couple had 27 different wedding cakes. The official cake for Charles and Diana’s wedding was made by the lead baker of the Royal Naval cooking school, David Avery.
