Apparently, during the original opening of Gilligan’s Island, they had referred to Mary Ann and the professor as “the rest”. This brought some discussions and debates since both were main characters in the show. However, they had not received the equal recognition that they deserved. Fortunately, the theme song was later changed for the next season.

Gilligan and Skipper are not the only characters with an interesting name history. The name Ginger was greatly inspired by two iconic figures in the golden era of Hollywood, Ginger Rogers and Cary Grant. Hence, we know Tina Louise’s character as Ginger Grant.
