After graduating high school in 1964, she moved to the epicenter of country music: Nashville. Despite her talent, she had a hard time at first. Parton started out by just composing songs for other artists with her uncle Bill Owens. Together they composed two top ten hits.

Dolly signed with Monument Records when she was only 19 years old! However, their vision wasn’t exactly what Dolly had in mind for herself. They wanted her to be a squeaky clean pop artist who appealed to the teenage market. She recorded some singles, but none of them were successful.
